The Italian-German Economic Association honored the Cimbali Group Coffee Machine Museum by recognizing its “Intercultural Commitment” through its fascinating account of the culture and tradition of Italian espresso in Germany.

Binasco, 17 October 2023 – The Mercurio Prize award ceremony was held on 9 October in Cologne at the Wolkenburg space, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Francesco Lollobrigida and the Italian Ambassador, Armando Varricchio. The ceremony saw the frontline involvement of MUMAC, the Cimbali Group Coffee Machine Museum. This prize is awarded annually to initiatives that have stood out in the field of economic and cultural exchanges between Italy and Germany in the twelve months preceding the award ceremony.

MUMAC was recognized by the Düsseldorf-based Italian-German Association MERCURIO for its “Intercultural Commitment” in promoting Italian espresso tradition in Germany. In 2022, the company museum – to date the largest permanent exhibition dedicated to the history, world and culture of professional espresso machines – celebrated 10 years since its foundation with a major redesign aimed at increasingly becoming a museum for everyone.

“We regard this award as a great recognition of over a decade’s commitment and work in spreading the culture of a product that is typically made in Italy but known and recognized throughout the world,” commented Barbara Foglia, MUMAC Director.

Leopoldo De Luca, Managing Director of Cimbali Group Deutschland GmbH recalled: “Espresso is an Italian heritage that Germany was among the first countries to appreciate. We are proud to say that our professional machines have contributed to the spread of this culture far beyond the Alps."

The award, presented in Cologne by MERCURIO President Dr. Eckart Petzold, was collected by Anna Cento, MUMAC Curator.
